FAQ

Organic Fed Heritage

Organic Fed
Our chickens grow up horomone free and live on pasture. They have a diet that consists of grass and bugs.

We also suppliment their diet with locally sourced organic feed that is also Soy & Corn free.
Slow Growing
Our birds are slow growing taking up to 3x longer to reach full size compared to commercial chickens.

Slow growth creates a healthier more natural chicken. They are usually smaller but more flavorful.
Soy, Corn, & GMO Free Organic Supplemental Feed
Our organic feed is locally sourced and custum blended for our chickens.

We made a choice to go soy and corn free one becuase some of our customers soy allergies are so severe they wouldnt be able to eat our eggs or chickens if we fed soy.

The main reason we dont include soy and corn in our chickens diets is because soy and corn monocultures are bad for our health, the fields, and the environment.

Removing these commodity crops from our mixture gives our birds a more varied diet that is healthier and more sustainable.
Pasture Raised
Both our Organic Heritage birds and Beer Broiler birds are raised on pasture.

When you raise animals on pasture they are happier, cleaner, and healthier.

They forage for food like they were born to do.  They eat grass and bugs and enjoy life.

When out on pasture they also get to run, jump, and play. This not only make them happy but encourages the development of intermuscular fat. Creating a better tasting chicken.

Beer Broiler

Not (legally) Organic
Rules for organic chickens are pretty straight forward but can be counter productive at times. Here are the two reasons our Beer Broilers cant be organic. Legally

1. We recycle spent grain from some of your favorite local breweries. Which is great for the birds. It's high in fat content and healthy amino acids. It's also great way to make sure everything is used during the beer making process. No waste! For are chickens to be organic the law says all "All agricultural components... must be 100% organic" there is simply no way for the brewries to gurantee or prove this on every batch of beer they brew. So strike one.

2. We also have some great relationships with resturants around the cities who provide us with scraps from the kitchens they would otherwise disgared. Anyway we can recycle and vary our birds diets we jump at. However even when we work with a resturant that is 100% organic we get another strike from another rule.

Chickens by nature or omnivores, little dinasours who will eat any bug or even mouse silly enough to walk by. Even though by nature chickens eat meat if you want to eat an organic chicken they cannont be fed any animal by-products. So that means all the lobster shells, fish bones, and shrimp tales we get would disqualify our birds from being organic. Side note; We NEVER feed our birds chicken or any other species of poultry.
Fast Growing
We want our chicken to be accesible to as many people as possible. In order to do that we worked to make a cheaper alternative, the Beer Broiler.

In order to lower costs of rasing a healthier pastured bird we opted to use a faster growing bird. The cornish cross.

If you've eaten chicken you've eaten cornish cross. They make up a vast majority of chicken grown around the world. Even most organic chicken is cornish cross.
Fed Recycled Grain
We have partnered with a few of your favorite local brewries to help reduce waste and feed our Beer Broilers all at the same time.

Community Supported Agriculture- or a C.S.A is a way for you to start and grow a relationship with us, a local farmer, and your food. When you buy a CSA share early you help us purchase necessities for the farm so we can have a productive season producing you the healthiest and best tasting food.

In return you get the freshest food straight from the farm, new friends, and the knowledge you are eating better and supporting your community.
